Predicting Netflix's Next 10 Smash Hit Shows
2. 10 After Midnight
Released: Around 2021
Since its switch to Netflix, Black Mirror has grown to become an international phenomenon and one of the platform's big hitters, inspiring other streaming services to attempt their own scary anthologies.
With that series' future unsure after creators Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones split with production company Endemol, Netflix have brought in another big name for a new anthology of dark and creepy stories.
We don't yet know a great deal about 10 After Midnight except that it comes presented by Guillermo Del Toro. The Oscar-winning director and endlessly imaginative icon of the weird will personally curate a "collection of sinister stories, each more horrifying than the last", as well as finding time in his busy schedule to write and direct one himself.
Del Toro's love of the scary anthology format and of giving a platform to up and coming horror filmmakers is clear from Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark. Meanwhile, in the past, the "Guillermo Del Toro Presents..." tag has also been used to give us movies like Juan Antonio Bayona's The Orphanage and Julia's Eyes from Guillem Morales (who, as director of many of the best installments of Inside No. 9, would be a perfect choice for an episode of another twisted TV anthology).
If Del Toro can bring even part of that sense of the uncanny and eye for new talent to Netflix (where his Tales Of Arcadia is one of the big family animation hits) then this will be one to watch.
