8. Winter is Coming (Season 1, Episode 1)
At the risk of sounding too much like Stefon from Saturday Night Lives Weekend Update, this season premiere has everything: zombies, beheadings, full frontal nudity, incest, a wedding, a murder at a wedding, and attempted child murder. This episode had the unenviable task of introducing a whole new group of viewers into the world of Ice and Fire, as well as its vast amount of characters, and Benioff and Weiss did an excellent job hooking the audience to come back for more, and 49 episodes later, the audience has indeed come back in droves.
