2. Blackwater (Season 2, Episode 9)
Baelor had two major battles, but due to lack of funds, neither battle was shown. All that was shown was the very beginning and the very end. After a successful first season, HBO granted all the funds that Benoiff and Weiss needed to make an epic Battle of the Blackwater. It was the first Thrones episode focused entirely in one place from start to finish, and what a great battle it was. The image of Blackwater Bay lit up in wildfire is one of the more iconic images of the entire series. Tyrions lets go kill them speech was another highlight. What really made Blackwater special was not only what was going on in the bay, but also for what was going on away from the battle. Occasionally the episode would shift to inside the Red Keep where Cersei, Sansa and the other women and children were kept while they waited for the battle to finish. Watching Cersei slip slower and slower into inebriation as she interacted with Sansa and Shae was one of the most underrated parts of the episode. Honorable mention goes to Bronn singing The Rains of Castamere and sharing a drink with the Hound pre-battle.
