Ranking All Main Characters From Boardwalk Empire

13. Dr. Valentin Narcisse

Boardwalk Empire
HBO

Every season of Boardwalk Empire saw Nucky Thompson confront and deal with a new breed of villainy appropriately; be it a bootlegging turf war, a political coup or an all-out war. However, in the fourth season Nucky took a step back as this time it wasn't his fight to finish. With the arrival of Dr. Valentin Narcisse, racial tensions escalate within the black community of Atlantic City, and it's Chalky White who must step forward to resolve.

The fourth season is most certainly Chalky's season, and his own brand of villain comes in the form of the well-spoken, well-educated Narcisse. As the season's antagonist, he shows his hand very quickly as a ruthless individual that should not be trifled with.

His undermining of Chalky escalates as he takes over the Onyx Club, roots Chalky out of Atlantic City, and exploits the god-fearing naivete of Atlantic City's black citizens - disavowing heroin with one breath, while pushing it on people with another.

Jeffrey Wright's sombre voice and timid mannerisms as the character are what set him alight. He wasn't threatening in the slightest until he started speaking, and when he did, his thinly veiled threats to anyone in the room made even the viewers hairs stand to attention.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
