Ranking All Main Characters From Boardwalk Empire

The women that revolved around Nucky Thompson came in all kinds of charismatic shapes and sizes. And while most of the women prior to the fourth season seemed enamoured with his wealth and status, down in the sweaty swamps of Florida, Sally Wheet was having none of his shtick.

There was something delightful and refreshing about Sally Wheet, and what Patricia Arquette did to make the character retain gumption is something to be admired. So why is she so low on the list? Maybe because even though she exploded on screen in the fourth season, her role seemed awkwardly diminished almost immediately in the fifth. A character as vibrant as hers made a very brief splash on screen, but then rippled away shortly after her debut.

It's a shame because there was something endearing about a character not impressed by Nucky's money, but enthralled by his character as a person. And Nucky was impressed by her too - a character that matched his "no bulls**t" pursuits made them both a dynamite power-couple. And once Sally established herself in Nucky's operation, she proved herself more than competent amidst his long-serving cronies.

But Sally just didn't land the way Gillian or Margaret did. And even when she meets her (very) unfortunate end in the fifth season, it doesn't hit as big as some of the other deaths in the final outing.
