9. Mallus (And His Army)
Appeared In: DC's Legends of Tomorrow (Season 3)
Legends of Tomorrow went dark this past year and decided to incorporate a time-travelling demon into its mythology. The writers did a fantastic job of heightening the tension throughout the season as they built up to his reveal, and the fact that we were all excited and unnerved by a character who didn't appear until the penultimate episode speaks volumes.
From the mere mention of his name to the terrifying demon world, Legends really made us feel Mallus before we ever saw him. Moreover, nothing could have prepared us for the giant winged bat-demon that he eventually turned out to be.
But the demon doesn't get all the credit. While he was busy demoning inside the demon world, he relied on his lieutenants in the real world to free him. With that, the unusual alliance of Damien Darhk and Gorilla Grodd began wreaking havoc throughout the season. Darhk turned in another enjoyable run on the show, but this time his relationship with his daughter Nora allowed us to see a softer side to him. He really grew as a character, which only highlighted how far he had come since the dark days of Arrow Season 4.
For the second year running, Legends of Tomorrow produced an eclectic line-up of villains that worked surprisingly well together, and it made for another unbelievably fun adventure.
