Ranking Every DCAU Show And Film Worst To Best

5. Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero

Justice League Fatal Five
Warner Bros. Animation

The update to Mr. Freeze's origin story is undoubtedly one of the best things that the DCAU gave to the Batman mythos, so it makes sense that Warner Bros. Animation wanted to revisit the character after the series came to an end.

Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero saw the ice villain launch a final desperate attempt to save his beloved Nora, as he kidnapped Barbara Gordon to perform an organ transplant on her. Naturally, this got the attention of Batman and Robin, who desperately searched the city for her, unaware that she was five miles offshore on an abandoned oil rig.

SubZero was initially due to be released in 1997 but, following the trainwreck that was Batman & Robin it was delayed until the following year for fear of comparisons. Ironically, it only reinforced that the team behind the animated universe were far more equipped to handle the delicate character.

Without a doubt the most underrated of the DCAU films, Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero is an extension of one of The Animated Series' greatest creations, proving that there was more of Freeze's story left to tell. More than that, it was a highly-engaging narrative that offered that mature storytelling and often tragic tone that the series was renowned for as it built towards an incredible fiery conclusion.
