Ranking Every Major MCU Netflix Villain From Worst To Best
10. Lewis Wilson (The Punisher)
As opposed to the main MCU's ex-military characters, such as Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson, Netflix (as always) shows the darker side of things. Specifically, through Frank Castle and, one of the adversaries he faces in season one of The Punisher, Lewis Wilson.
It was clear that this character was meant to hit uncomfortably close to home for American viewers, and to that end, Netflix definitely succeeded. Perhaps a little too well, in fact, and fans have pointed out the obvious parallels between Lewis and real-life domestic terrorist Timothy McVeigh.
That said, while it would have been easy to go all-in on this and portray Lewis as a stereotypical, over-the-top psycho, they instead told an all too real story of a veteran suffering from PTSD who, as a result of not getting sufficient treatment and having a far-right lunatic in his ear, took the lives of innocent people. Plus, Daniel Webber's performance is utterly chilling.
In a franchise full of larger-than-life crime bosses and supervillains, it was harrowing to see a type of antagonist that does actually exist. Even if he was only in a subplot and a bit on the nose, Lewis is a character that definitely fosters relevant sociopolitical discussion.
