Ranking Every MCU TV Show From Worst To Best
2. Agent Carter
Hayley Atwell was one of the best things about Captain America: The First Avenger, which has been somewhat forgotten about in the grand scheme of things given how far it was superseded in overall quality by the Winter Soldier and Civil War. As the first love interest given the proper opportunity to properly take part in the action (Pepper Potts, Betty Ross and Jane Foster having all been fairly passive at that point), it was great to see her come back in a period drama after Cap's time skip prevented any future film appearances of her younger self (though the scenes of her older self on her deathbed were highly emotional).
Mixing typical superhero elements with that of a hardboiled 1940s drama, Agent Carter gives insight into the early days of several key aspects of the ongoing MCU, including S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Black Widow and Winter Soldier programs. It annoyingly ended after two seasons on a massive cliffhanger.
The peril of network television (the show having aired on ABC) is the ever looming prospect of cancellation if ratings fall and whilst a cable or streaming network might've offered the opportunity to wrap things up, we can only wonder what happened next to Peggy and the Strategic Science Reserve as the Cold War began to take shape.
ABC shot themselves in the foot with their poor scheduling and promotion of the series, which was riveting entertainment from start to finish. Its eighteen episodes are a must see.
