Ranking Every MCU TV Show From Worst To Best
7. Luke Cage
If Luke Cage was being judged solely on its first seven episodes, it would probably sit unrivalled at the peak of this list. The initial world-building of Cage's Harlem and the characters that populate it is terrific, with Mahershala Ali's Cottonmouth thriving as the immediate standout and stealing every scene he is in. All the indicators seemed to point to him becoming a long-running and formidable adversary.
In retrospect, his crown-wearing Biggie Smalls painting foreshadows him being cut down in his prime halfway through the season, which was a massive shock to anybody watching given how rarely Marvel films and series have actually pulled the plug on their characters.
Killing him was a brave move and one that didn't really pay off given how poorly the often cringworthy Diamondback steps up to take his place in the sluggish second half.
The continued presence of Mariah Dillard and Shades was enough to make the recently released second season a tantalising prospect, but this was the epitome of hit and miss, with the intrigue of Bushmaster and the always excellent musical sequences offset by Mike Colter’s usually excellent Cage becoming a parody of himself at times.
Now a third season is off the table at Netflix, it remains to be seen how things will pan out now that Cage is overseeing Harlem’s underworld. Here’s hoping for some form of Heroes For Hire team-up between him and the now also homeless Iron Fist somewhere down the line.
