5. Jessica Jones

MCU TV Shows
Netflix

Jessica Jones was a somewhat left-field choice for Marvel's second Netflix series given her relative obscurity as a character. The alcoholic anti-hero worked fantastically on screen straight from the off though, with Krysten Ritter excelling as the edgy alternative to the eye candy or damsel in distress roles typically given to female comic characters.

The tweaking of her origins to remove her association with Spider-Man and give her a sisterly relationship with Trish 'Patsy' Walker worked well, as did the inclusion of her relationship with Luke Cage, which allowed him to be effectively introduced ahead of his eponymous series.

Though Carrie-Anne Moss shines as the sharp lawyer Jeri Hogarth, it is David Tennant who steals the first season as Kilgrave, whose constant and ruthless abuse of his mind control powers make him a truly menacing presence whenever he is on screen.

His death was necessary, but created a vacuum for the show's second season, where the lack of a successor in the villain department coupled with questionable character arcs (such as the death of Will Simpson instead of the logical transition into his crazed Nuke alter ego and Trish’ subsequent abuse of his performance enhancers) resulted in a disjointed run of episodes that were completely unmemorable and difficult to watch at times.

A third season is in the works (having seemingly survived the Netflix cull), but there seems to be little else for Jessica Jones to do now that her history has been completely exhausted.
