Ranking Every Season Of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia From Worst To Best
2. Season 4
It's at Season 4 that It's Always Sunny really starts to come into its own. Characters are finally embracing that over-the-top insanity and depravity that is known today, and the gangs schemes are bordering psychotic. All of this makes for some of the best episodes the show has to offer.
There is however one weak episode in the season, "The Gang Cracks the Liberty Bell," which features the gang back in colonial times. It has it's moments, but because the characters are so radically different from those we know and love it just doesn't connect as well as the rest of the season does.
Far removed from a weak episode, "The Gang Solves the Gas Crisis" is an instant classic. Charlie's wildcard antics highlight the shows run, and show you can never know what to really expect from a single member of the gang. "The Gang Gets Extreme: Home Makeover Edition" is the gang at their best as they kidnap a family and try and give them the American dream but end up burning their house down instead.
Then there's "The Nightman Cometh," rightfully considered by many to be the best episode in the entire series, which features the gang put on a musical straight from the tormented mind of Charlie. Even more impressive was that it was written by Charlie Day himself, who showcases just how talented he is as not only an actor but an artist as well.
Season 4 has it all, from mysteries surrounding poop to kidnapping and hunting the homeless. It's Sunny in its prime, and even though it may not land the top spot, it takes nothing away from a near flawless season.
