Ranking Every Season Of The Walking Dead (So Far)

7. Season Two

Rick Shane Walking Dead
AMC

Though slow in places, Season Two is the most iconic season of the show for many fans. Thanks to a mesmerising and truly terrifying performance from Jon Bernthal and some fantastic character arcs for Daryl, Glenn and newcomer Hershel Greene, Season Two is a groundbreaking season for the show, and the true beginning of the series as we know it today.

Sophia Peletier emerging from the Greene barn is a Walking Dead staple, and meeting Hershel and his daughters Maggie and Beth adds a gravitas to the group and moral compass that would define the early portion of the series.

Again, there are weaknesses, such as Dale Horvath's clumsy and avoidable death, Lori Grimes' infuriating inconsistencies and Andrea's constant need to have a gun (sigh), but the acting is perfect and the stakes are high, the tension palpable. It could have been improved with some setting changes and maybe being a couple episodes shorter, but there is more than enough good stuff here to make it incredible.
