Ranking The Doctor Who Series Premieres From Worst To Best

6. Rose (Series 1)

First broadcast: Saturday 26th March 2005 The TARDIS reopened its doors on Saturday 26th March 2005 and this one was a pretty big deal since it marked the long overdue return of TV's favourite Time Lord after a long and lonely hiatus of 16 years. This once disregarded cult creation was now bigger and better than ever before as Christopher Eccleston burst onto our screens as the Ninth Doctor to herald the latest incarnation of our honourable hero into a bright and shining new era. "Run!" he said, as fans new and old sat with baited breath. And thus a legend was born. Well, reborn. In retrospect, this could've ended terribly. The show's grand televisual comeback was preceded by an intense level of public scrutiny but it was clear to see that the future flagship franchise was in safe hands under the more than capable helm of Russell T Davies. Not only that but viewers were introduced to former pop princess Billie Piper as their first 21st century sidekick who didn't take long to establish herself as a formidable on screen force to be reckoned with. The first episode also featured the Autons, first introduced in the Classic Series, to reassure older viewers that it was still the show they knew and loved. A blast from the past as the franchise was catapulted into the future. What more could you possibly want? Just don't talk about the burping bin...
