Ranking The Doctor Who Series Premieres From Worst To Best

7. Smith And Jones (Series 3)

First broadcast: Saturday 31st March 2007 Freema Agyeman made her highly publicised Doctor Who debut in this Series 3 premiere episode after making her actual, and far less interesting, debut during the Series 2 finale. This time she had been reinstated as a brand new character, mettlesome medical student Martha Jones, who joined forces with the Tenth Doctor when the hospital she was working at was transported to "the bloody Moon" by an army of intergalactic police rhinos. You really had to be there. Suffice to say, things went from bad to worse when the Time Lord and his new amicable associate found themselves in a race against time to track down a blood-sucking Plasmavore, as played by TV's very own Anne Reid, and it all ended with a dramatic sequence involving the Doctor heroically carrying Martha down a corridor as she took far too long to run out of oxygen. She survived, against all odds, which was pretty lucky seeing as Freema had signed up for to appear in a further 12 episodes. Martha promptly stepped aboard the TARDIS under the pretence of "just one trip" which soon escalated into many, many more. An exhilarating jaunt on the lunar surface, if you like that sort of thing.
