Ranking The Doctor Who Series Premieres From Worst To Best
4. Partners In Crime (Series 4)
First broadcast: Saturday 5th April 2008 Doctor Who seemingly couldn't get rid of Donna Noble quick enough when she was first introduced as a boisterous bride to be in the 2006 Christmas Special. Her real life alter ego, Catherine Tate, was probably just as confused as the rest of us, then, when she was invited to return as the Doctor's coveted companion for the entirety of Series 4, paving the way for one of the most dynamic duos in TV history. To put it simply, Partners in Crime is one of those episodes that gets better every time you watch it. David Tennant is on tip top form as his kicks off his third year at the helm of time and space and his response to being reunited to his short-lived seasonal sidekick has gone down in the history books as one of the Tenth Doctor's defining moments. His face says it all when he spots Donna through the window and their entertaining exchange alone was enough to reassure fans that this temp from Chiswick was about to give the suddenly trepidatious Time Lord a run for his money. Plus, the Adipose are just so god damned cute. Who would've thought that creatures composed of human fat could ever be so adorable!? The episode also boasts a stonking, stone-cold villain in the form of BAFTA nominee Sarah Lancashire as the aptly named Miss Foster and, to really get tongues wagging, Billie Piper makes a fleeting return as Rose Tyler in a moment that left fans across the land punching the air in a spontaneous outburst of glee and frustration. Series 4 was going to be one hell of a ride.
