1. The Long Wait (2011)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSLOnR1s74o And here we have it. 2011's The Long Wait took 28% of the vote in a recent Daily Express poll to ascertain the nation's favourite John Lewis Christmas advert, the highest percentage overall, though only by a slim margin (Monty The Penguin took 26% and the Bear And The Hare 25% respectively). Focusing on a boy impatiently counting down the days until Christmas (an experience almost anybody can think back and relate to), the advert's heart-melting moment comes with the 'twist' ending, which reveals that his impatience is not the result of wanting to receive his own presents, which he walks straight past, but rather to give the one that he has purchased to his parents. Backed by an excellent cover of The Smiths' Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want, this simple yet heartfelt creation continues to stand above those that came both before and after it.
