Ranking The Major Buffy The Vampire Slayer Villains From Worst To Best

4. The Master

Many may be surprised to see The Master so high up in this list, but you've gotta hand it to the guy, he actually killed Buffy.

Twice in fact, as even in the alternative landscape of 'The Wish', he still managed to come out on top.

And if we're really getting into it, technically he's done her in three times if you include him burying her alive in the episode 'Nightmares', but that one has always split opinion. Even so, that's still an impressive track record to have, and the fact that Buffy's death at his hands is a constant inevitability instantly makes him a cut above many others.

Outside of his talent for killing Buffy, The Master has so much more to offer. His camp, yet sinister demeanor is never anything less than a joy to watch, and his end goal of creating a human-rendering factory that allows him to have fresh blood on tap is certainly inspired, if not a little nauseating.

He may be a tad too old-fashioned for some, but there's no denying that The Master is one of Buffy's best adversaries, and his sporadic reappearances in later seasons were always a welcome treat.
