Red Dwarf: The Promised Land Review - 6 Ups & 2 Downs
5. The Stunning Visuals
It was billed as a special with the budget of a series and it sure looks it.
The crystal clear 4K resolution features much more ambitious camerawork, with sweeping shots gliding effortlessly through the crisp corridors of the Dwarf. Then we're treated to the beautiful wide vistas of the desert moon that hosts a massive chase scene. Everything looks fantastic.
Props also have to be given to the production design with each ship having a distinct look and color palette, and dripping with small details.
The many explosions looking suitably epic, and some of the action scenes being pulled off rival some films with a much bigger budget. The reliance on models and more practical work over CGI has worked wonders for the show in the past, and here it shines brighter than ever.
The shot of Starbug half-buried in the desert with the sun fading in the background is some of the most beautiful cinematography the show's ever pulled off and makes sure fans are treated to all the curious sights of space in the best way possible.
You'd be forgiven for forgetting this is a made-for-TV film.
