Rick And Morty: 10 Worst Things Rick Has Done
6. Do The Purge
The show has always leaned heavily into pop culture references - the whole concept is just a parody of Back To The Future - and nowhere is that more apparent than in Look Who’s Purging Now.
Rick and Morty happen to land on a peaceful planet, due to celebrate their yearly rite, The Festival. As Rick eagerly points out, The Festival is basically the movie The Purge, and tells Morty they’re staying to watch.
As is to be expected, staying to watch quickly becomes participating. It’s actually Morty who suggests they join in, but only to save a young girl. To his credit, Rick is frequently reluctant to get involved, but is slowly absorbed into the frenzy taking place. Once Rick’s in, he’s committed. Morty is no saint either, and this would be high on his worst list too.
Towards the end of the episode, Rick tries to explain his involvement away with a Twinkie defense. The bar Rick & Morty ate though is clearly labelled Purgenol Free, so there’s no chance the food drove them into madness. Rick’s easy write off of how quickly they descended into violence is possibly the worst part of it.
