7. Leave Beth’s Friend In Froopyland
Rick’s done some awful things to his own family, and has no trouble recklessly endangering random people around the galaxy too. Basically, getting close to Rick (or getting in his way) puts you on a collision course for disaster. So when Beth made a childhood friend, it was only a matter of time before things went wrong.
Unable to spend much time with a young Beth because of his work, Rick constructs Froopyland for her to play in. It’s arguably lazy and a bit neglectful to palm his daughter off into a fake reality, but hardly monstrous. However, when Beth’s friend gets lost in there, that’s when this gets kicked up into the worst things he’s ever done.
Letting Tommy get lost in Froopyland isn’t even the worst of it. Tommy’s father, Joseph, is due to be executed, for Tommy’s murder. Beth thinks she made Froopyland up to cope with Tommy’s murder, to which Rick angrily replies that it was his creation.
It’s not the fact that a man is due to be falsely executed that bothers Rick; it’s that he won’t get credit for Froopyland that really irritates him.
