4. The Ricks Must Be Crazy

Rick and Morty's trademark existentialism is at its best in The Ricks Must Be Crazy. The never-ending but nonetheless insignificant nature of the universe is an idea the audience is constantly reminded of in this episode.

The teenyverse contained within a miniverse contained within a microverse is a genius concept and epitomises the wit of the series. It also is the ideal plot device for conveying the message of universal insignificance.

The plot involves Rick and Morty journeying to Rick's homemade miniature universe, which also happens to be his car battery. Morty sees this is as immoral but Rick dismisses it with his usual callousness. The "peace among worlds" gag emphasises the exploitative nature of Rick's microverse.

The Ricks Must Be Crazy really showcases Rick's character; his arrogance and contempt for anybody who thinks they're better than him are plain to see. A clash of personalities takes place between Rick and his equal Zeep, culminating in a car chase (setting up a hilarious post-credits scene) and subsequent fistfight, with Rick emerging victorious.
