Rick And Morty: Every Season Four Episode Ranked Worst To Best
7. The Old Man And The Seat
Rick and Morty has enjoyed some big-name guest stars throughout its time, from Nathan Fillion, to Jeffrey Wright, Alan Tudyk, and more. The Old Man and the Seat however, boasted possibly one of the biggest, with Taika Waititi joining the show as Glootie, the tiny alien hell-bent on developing an app.
Though the majority of his dialogue was somewhat limited, the character was a more than welcome addition to the show. The entire story with Jerry and Morty trying to shut down Glootie and the Monogatrons was brilliant, as was Summer and Beth's narrative together. These pairings worked well, though Rick’s arc was slightly more disappointing.
Usually, the smartest man in the universe has a sidekick or an assistant to bounce off on his adventures, whether it be Morty, Summer, Beth, or even Jerry. However, his journey of solitude and learning about friendship was too uncharacteristic for him, based on a flimsy pretext of him being a shy pooper.
The show has gone dark with Rick's loneliness before, even having him go so far as attempting to kill himself after Unity left him, and while The Old Man and the Seat echoed this sentiment, it fell short of the devastation and raw emotion Auto Erotic Assimilation was able to achieve.
