Rick & Morty: 10 Essential Episodes EVERY Fan Should See
2. Meeseeks And Destroy
The first really exceptional episode that transcended the series into instant classic status in a vastly growing pantheon of unadulterated brilliance is this positively quirky entry.
We know at this point that Rick isn’t the nicest of guys. As a matter of fact, he’s a vindictive, alcohol consuming mastermind that more times rather than not couldn’t care less about the world (or its inhabitants) around him; or at least that is, unless his grandson occupies a place there.
This chapter proves two things right off the bat. Despite being unforgivably cruel to Morty on more than one occasion, he cares a lot for the boy. In one of the show’s most infamously malicious moments and one that probably shouldn’t be as funny as it is - one that sees a giant jellybean trying to enact a very realistic rape on the unsuspecting child - Rick makes the jellybean receive a type of kiss that he was woefully unprepared for.
The other is that even with the ubiquitous ability of the blue fellows known as Meeseeks at his disposal, not even the divine power of a theoretical god could prevent Jerry’s mediocrity. As we watch him go from bad to terrible while failing to perform one of the most simple tasks a man could request. Shaving points off his golf game.
