Ripper Street: Is Constable Flight The Worst Policeman Ever?
Warning a SPOILER alert is in effect! Episode Two of the new season of Ripper Street covered a heck of a lot, paving the way for several fantastic plot strands in the coming season and building solidly on the great start of episode one. 'Am I Not Monstrous?' introduced new places and new faces, most notably Detective Constable Flight, the freshest recruit to H Division's ranks on Leman Street. The set up to this character is fantastic we're told that he's worked on his own time as a policeman and that he personally volunteered to be transferred to Leman Street, where they are desperately in need of reinforcements. However, coming from a beat on Bloomsbury, Reid, Drake and Jackson don't believe he'll be up to the task of policing the dangerous streets of Whitechapel. Cue the audience expectations that Flight will, after a few trip-ups, do something suitably awesome to win the respect of his senior officers and become a true member of our favourite Victorian crime-fighting squad. But no. Because the writers of Ripper Street know what they're doing, this doesn't happen. Instead, it slowly dawns on the audience that Constable Flight, far from being the new wonder-boy, might actually be the worst policeman ever. That might seem a little harsh, but consider the following facts and see if we don't come to the same deduction...
