Riverdale: 10 Characters Who Deserve More Love
7. Valerie Brown
If songwriter Valerie crafted lyrics that described her ascension this year, there's no doubt it would be a power anthem. The woman behind the words of the talented Pussycats found her own voice after leaving her litter.
Valerie's second-banana status in the Pussycats is relatable to not only background artists but also friends in certain social circles. A quiet presence in the early episodes, Valerie shares occasional wisdom with her fellow bandmates though she's frequently intimidated by the leader of her group.
Her short-lived romance with Archie alters the band's hierarchy. Valerie turns down Archie's request to share the variety show stage, fearing Josie's wrath. The Pussycats spar over the event anyway and Valerie leaves her ensemble to duet with Archie. Just before the performance, she senses the enormous weight on Josie's shoulders and decides not to abandon a friend in need. Valerie follows her convictions, earns Josie's admiration, and rejoins the band out of loyalty.
She doesn't extend the same patience to Archie for good reason. Archie gets entangled in the schemes of the Blossoms, a somewhat naive victim of their machinations. Valerie chooses to separate herself from the predicament and focus on her career. Dubbed the Pussycat with the most integrity by Josie's father, Valerie would rather play keyboard than play around with outside influences.
Valerie becomes more vocal over the season, earning her the respect of her musical sisters. Her return to the stage on her own terms and her new streak of independence should have fans screaming for an encore.
