Riverdale: 10 Characters Who Deserve More Love

8. F.P. Jones

The best redemptive arc of the season comes courtesy of a construction worker with no concrete plans. Jughead's father may not own a middle-class house like Fred Andrews or possess the prestige of Cliff Blossom, but his backstory's the most compelling out of the Riverdale fathers. His efforts to overcome his addiction and strengthen his bond with Jughead makes him one of the most tenacious residents in Riverdale.

F.P. Jones starts the season as the leader of the Southside Serpents, a notorious gang responsible for much of the community's troubles. His son resides at the drive-in just to avoid the unrest caused by F.P.'s drinking and unlawful operations. F.P. accepts a job under Archie's father, with the hope that it will convince Jughead to return home. F.P. puts aside his pride and puts down the bottle so he can rebuild the family he's lost.

Jughead's faith in his father gets shaken but audience members should recognize the firm love F.P. holds for his only son. There's no safety net when F.P. takes the blame for Jason's demise in order to shield Jughead from harm. His blemished reputation and believable confession point to him being a prime suspect. However, F.P.'s commendable protection of Jughead is something no viewer should judge to be wrong.

Now that Skeet Ulrich has been bumped up to regular status, season two promises to provide a stronger foundation for his complex character. The opportunity to unearth other layers of Riverdale's grittiest parent is on the horizon.
