Riverdale: 10 Characters Who Deserve More Love

4. Alice Cooper

Riverdale Josie McCoy
The CW

The name of Alice Cooper sends shivers down spines even if its bearer dons conservative dresses and cooks pastries. As a former Southside Serpent, she's no fragile housewife and will strike whenever she sees the chance to get the upper hand.

In addition to her role as the prickly matron of the Cooper clan, Alice rules the Riverdale Register with an iron fist. The heart-stopping headlines of the newspaper stimulate many town conversations. Her desire for a scoop doesn't end after office hours, however, and she's often the first to expose the illicit happenings of her tiny hamlet elsewhere.

While Alice loves dropping life-shattering information about others, she's willing to defend her children at all costs. Alice exerts enormous energy to keep the secrets of her daughters under wraps. She hovers over Betty in particular but only because she believes it benefits the sensitive cheerleader. Her up and down relationship with Polly doesn't stop her from attending her baby shower and inviting Polly back to her house. The maternal instincts of Alice always outweigh the prejudices she holds.

Giving up her son in her teenage years suggests a softer side to Alice but she understandably doesn't let her guard down for just anyone. It took a great deal of honesty to reveal her first pregnancy but Alice shares her history with praiseworthy poise.

The audience is granted full access to her character, who possesses all the ingredients of a multifaceted mother.
