Riverdale: 10 Characters Who Deserve More Love

5. Ethel Muggs

The silent strength of Ethel Muggs receives smaller recognition in comparison to the resilient personalities of her bolder classmates. Yet she merits a far larger amount of praise since Ethel experiences two tragedies while Riverdale focuses on the murder of Jason Blossom.

A single math problem adds up to a nightmarish ordeal for shy Ethel. After aiding Chuck Clayton with his homework, she's listed in a slut-shaming playbook with other female students. She bands with Betty and Veronica to exact revenge on Chuck rather than stew in her pain. Their methods produce a positive outcome and Ethel's on a new list of vindicated girls who witness Chuck's expulsion.

The daughter of a suicidal father, Ethel carries a lot on her teenage shoulders. Ethel elects to use poetry as an artistic outlet while Veronica blames herself for the incident. Instead of punishing Veronica, Ethel reassures Veronica that she requires nothing of her except friendship. She wades past her tough circumstances and encourages others to stay positive even if her own home life's in shambles.

Ethel reaches out to Jughead in true optimistic fashion during his calamitous birthday party. She suggests he eat a slice of cake for good luck just as Jughead's fortunes grow dimmer. It's a fitting scene for the two characters and a reflection of Ethel's remarkable attitude.

While the writers only gift Ethel with a miniscule number of lines, she's the recipient of a laudable mindset and an unsinkable spirit.
