Riverdale: Ranking Every Character From Worst To Best

5. Archie Andrews

Archie Trial Riverdale

Bless Archie Andrews' gentle soul. The poor guy has been Riverdale's protagonist for the past three years (understandably so as its based on the Archie Comics) and yet he hasn't truly felt like it since halfway through the first season.

The character's greatest attributes are his kind heart and will to do the right thing, but unfortunately, the writers barely managed to capitalise on that and, instead, have the character continually make stupid mistakes. To top it all off, he never learns from those mistakes and, despite the instructions of his smarter best friends, he makes them again (and again).

KJ Apa does a great job bringing the character to life, and it's his enthusiastic and engaging performance that keeps fans invested in him, but it feels like the writers often struggle to find a place for Archie on the show and thus, instead of featuring him in the main storylines, they create a separate one - storylines which almost always highlight his flaws as a character.

Seriously, what happened to our favourite dreamy singer who loved to jump on a stage just as much as he loved to play football? In the past two years, this red-haired teenager has been a mob boss' right-hand man, a prisoner and a boxing world champ. You see the disconnect here?

In Archie's case, less is definitely more.
