Riverdale: Ranking Every Character From Worst To Best

1. Jughead Jones

Jughead Jones may have began the series as Archie's socially awkward and broody best friend, but there was so much more to the character below the surface - and that's what enabled him to quickly become Riverdale's most compelling character.

His passion for writing sets him apart from the rest of the kids in town while his subdued nature makes him a lot more intriguing than the multiple larger-than-life caricatures he is surrounded by.

Jughead's origins made him a loner, an outsider if you will, and he's fully aware of that, admitting that he isn't a fan of hanging out with anyone that isn't in his close-knit group of friends. However, over the course of the show, he has learned to let a few more people in and, as a result, grew even more so as a character.

But again, those were layers that weren't even necessary to his development, because he always had that wealth of potential that was just waiting to be explored and, for the most part, the writers have done a great job bringing that potential to life.

Jughead's inquisitive nature ensures that he is always an asset in just about every mystery the show attempts to tell and that, coupled with both his well-developed backstory and Cole Sprouse's engaging performance, allowed him to easily eclipse his best friend to become the show's strongest character.
