Riverdale Season 3: 4 Ups & 6 Downs From 'Fear The Reaper'

Downs...

6. Been There, Done That

Riverdale Archie Andrews Mad Dog
The CW

Following on from last week's shock cliffhanger, in which Archie knocked out drugged-up boxer Randy Ronson, 'Fear The Reaper' opened with Randy's death. Unfortunately, like most of the things that take place on the show, this just didn't feel like it had the gravity that a major event like this should have (more on that later).

The real reason for its lack of meaning, however, was likely down to the fact that it was nothing more than a plot device so that Archie could find himself in trouble with the law... again. Yes, because we all wanted to revisit that storyline.

When it comes to Archie, it literally feels like the writers are going round in circles in a bid to make him relevant on his own show. Admirable, no doubt, but this is not the way to do it.

Both this and Hiram Lodge's apparent alliance with Elio (despite the fact that he had already buried the hatchet with Archie) were real eye-rolling moments.

Archie in trouble with the law, Hiram out to get him - we've been here before multiple times. At this point, it's really starting to feel like the writers are running out of ideas.
