Riverdale Season 3: 9 Theories On The Gargoyle King's True Identity

Alice and Betty's premature celebration over the return of Charles was, well, premature to say the least. Though he lived where Charles was supposed to live and shared the first two letters or his name, it soon became clear that Chic was not the long-lost Cooper/Jones sibling.

From bringing drug dealers into their home to watching Betty as she slept, Chic was noticeably unhinged, and this behaviour finally came to a head when he admitted that he wasn't actually Charles but the man who killed him. What he didn't realise, however, was that Betty harboured a greater darkness than he could ever comprehend and, thus, she brought him to the Black Hood (who would later turn out to be her own father). From there, she gave him a "compassionate" head start before the killer chased him through a cemetery.

That was the last we ever saw of Chic as the Black Hood's story came to an end shortly after this and, as a result, we never did find out if he ended up paying for his crimes at the hands of Riverdale's resident serial killer.

With that kind of intrigue surrounding his apparent demise, there are already plenty of questions hanging over Chic, but could he have avoided death and secretly returned as this barbaric creature? He was certainly disturbed enough to pull it off and, as we don't really know that much about his origins, it's possible that he may have been one of the few people aware of the town's history with Grypons & Gargoyles. Could he have resurrected the concept - and the King - for revenge?

While it's certainly plausible, there is one major hole in the possibility that Chic (and, for that matter, Charles) was responsible for all of this - it still doesn't explain who the original Gargoyle King was.
