Riverdale Season 3: 9 Theories On The Gargoyle King's True Identity

5. Hiram Lodge

Riverdale Gargoyle King
The CW

This may seem a little predictable here, but no list of "most likely suspects" would be complete without Riverdale's resident mafia boss, Hiram Lodge.

The patriarch of the Lodge family was the Big Bad of last season and took great pleasure in manipulating the residents of the town as he went about his shady business and attempted to turn Southside High into a federal prison. He even managed to have his daughter's boyfriend, Archie Andrews, arrested just because he no longer saw things the same way.

The question here isn't whether Hiram is capable of being a bloodthirsty monster - because we all know that he is. It's more complicated than that, as fans have been left wondering if he is the monster or simply one of its many targets.

It's definitely worth noting that he was part of the Midnight Club's first altercation with the Gargoyle King decades ago and that, following his own departure from town, the supernatural entity wasn't seen again until it eventually resurfaced after Hiram returned. Is this merely a coincidence? Has anyone every seen Hiram Lodge and the real Gargoyle King in the same place at the same time? After all, he was the one who hired Tallboy to impersonate the King - the question is: Why?

Having said all that, Hiram does seem to have mellowed in recent episodes and it would be an awfully predictable reveal if true.
