It was a fantastic payoff in Series 1 when the Bad Wolf puzzle fell together in 'The Parting of the Ways'. And throughout his tenure, Davies imbedded code words and subliminal messages that would lead us to finales. Moffat's an awful lot more complex though; his arcs aren't just longer, he overtly introduces mysteries that are needed to be solved, like River and the Doctor's death. There isn't necessarily a mention every episode either, but Moffat's Doctor is always travelling somewhere, to solve something. It's as if Moffat's arcs are more for the Doctor, and Davies's arcs are more for the audience. Nine and Ten have never noticed the arc or knew where they were heading; Eleven is more of a mystery-solving Doctor. You might say that there's a Sherlock Holmes influence in that...
