Scream: 10 Problems Season 2 Needs To Fix

6. A Mystery That Isn't Obvious

For most of the season, the best part of Scream was figuring out who the killer was. The writers intentionally set up all the characters as having a dark side so that viewers went back and forth with their suspicions, thinking it's Jake and Will one episode and then thinking it's Audrey the following week.

Yet towards the back end of the season, it became so laughably obvious who the killer was that all of that went out the window. In a post-finale interview, executive producer Jill Blotevogel talked up Piper's reveal as some shocking moment, but really, was anyone surprised? It's discovered that Daisy and Brandon had an illegitimate child, Piper shows up at literally every single key event and is constantly helping Emma out for no reason, she makes sure Emma becomes suspicious of Kieran, and she's the only character who isn't constantly shouting, "Look how sketchy I am! I'm probably in on this!"

For the most part, the unmasking sequence at the end of the finale was satisfying and felt like something out of the Scream movies, but it was missing that huge shock that came with the unmasking of Billy, Stu, Mickey, Roman, or Jill. It was hard not to burst out laughing when Piper took off the mask and you realize the show actually thought you hadn't figured it out already.
