3. Literally Everyone Is Super Suspicious
In addition to the Brandon James thing, this first episode sets up the idea that almost anyone could be involved in the murder, and many of them are insanely suspicious from the start. The main suspects aside from Brandon are Will and Jake. Will lied to Emma about what he was doing on the night of the murder, and later he confronts Jake to make sure he deleted certain files off his computer. "Your fingerprints are all over this too," Jake responds in the most casual conversation ever about avoiding implication in a murder. Later, Will tells everyone that he's glad that Nina's dead, which definitely won't come back to bite him in the ass later on. Oh, and then he straight up threatens Brooke in a voice you'd expect from a serial killer. Could he possibly be stacking the deck against himself any more? Towards the end, there's a montage showing that everyone has their secrets, but so far Will and Jake seem to be the main offenders.
