Scream: 12 WTF Moments From The TV Season Premiere
10. Noah Gets Super Meta (Out Of Nowhere)
Self-awareness and meta commentary was always a big part of the Scream franchise, and thankfully the TV show retains that spirit by giving Noah a monologue about horror shows. Noah points out why a lot of people are wary about the Scream series: you can't make a slasher movie into a TV series because television has to stretch things out for multiple seasons, whereas slasher movies tend to burn bright and fast, lasting only about 90 minutes. It's a funny little moment that feels exactly like something Wes Craven would do. Although to get a bit nitpicky, the writing leading up to this does sort of feel forced. In the movie franchise, these meta moments often came about during a film class, so there was a reason for the characters to be talking about bad sequels or remakes. But here, gothic literature is being discussed in English class, then The Walking Dead randomly comes up, then for some reason Jake brings up slasher movies, and then Noah gets into his monologue. It really feels like they wrote Noah's dialogue first, and then had to come up with a scene leading up to that. It's really not a natural thing for him to saying in that situation.
