Scream TV Series: Everything You Need To Know

4. The Plot

The synopsis for the show reveals that it starts with a YouTube video going viral, which acts as the catalyst for a murder, and starts dredging up links to the town€™s rather dark past. That means it is taking the serial killer and high-school tropes from the franchise, and updating them to fit with the modern setting. Stretching over ten episodes, as opposed to a 90-minute film, means that there€™ll have to be much more than just a bunch of murders, and the producers will be investing in the characters and the mystery as much as the horror-elements of the show. It€™ll start with the death of Nina, the most-popular girl at school, and they will show that everyone had a motive. They€™ve promised €œbig revelations and discoveries€, and ensuring that the characters created will be ones the audience care about, with their own secrets and lies and relationships, so that if/when they die it€™ll actually mean something. It€™ll also be €œcreating more of a mystery around the murders than ever existed in the Scream movies.€ That is something that can work as a TV series and that the audience can get invested in, such as in Twin Peaks (which they reference), although a more recent example would be the first season of ITV€™s Broadchurch.
