Scrubs: 10 Most Heartbreaking Moments

7. Mrs. Wilk's Death

Scrubs My Screw-Up
NBC

Of all the returning patients in Sacred Heart, it was arguably Mrs. Wilk who touched more lives than anyone else. She was a sweet woman, who connected with everyone and even coached Turk on his dancing, so naturally, the entire hospital was ecstatic when she was discharged.

However, on her way out she picked up an infection from an incompetent intern, and was forced back into her old bed. It was clear from the beginning that this time, she wouldn't be leaving. She was another that wasn't afraid of death, but still, that didn't make it any easier for those around her.

While she was the one dying, Dr. Cox and JD both went through the five stages of grief themselves. As her health deteriorated, they went through denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and finally acceptance. It is a beautiful episode that truly paints a picture of someone both JD and Dr. Cox caring about passing away.

It was the performances of Zach Braff and John C. McGinley that made this so heartbreaking. In typical Scrubs fashion, there was a lot of goofiness throughout the episode, but when it came to it, both gave a devastating performance as their friend died.
