Scrubs: 10 Worst Characters Who Appeared After Season 1
3. Sam Thompson
First Appearance: Season 3 Episode 17 - My Moment Of Un-Truth
Not every character in Scrubs was the worst because they didn't make us laugh. Some of them were awful because they were awful people.
Drug addiction is a difficult subject to represent in a comedy show, but thankfully Scrubs tapered itself to a more mature approach at showing the lengths addicts would go in order to score their next fix. Enter Sam Thompson - a patient at Sacred Heart who manipulated the naivete of Elliot, Jordan and recovering drug addicts on three separate occasions.
Sam's ability to repeatedly trick the main characters, does make him an engaging character to see on screen; but the show's ultimate treatment of him did ultimately leave a sour taste in the mouth.
There was no closure to his character; no hopeful sense of sobriety, or justice for him fleecing Elliot, Jordan or even worse, fellow addicts. The last we saw of Sam, he was receiving one of Dr. Cox' stern but noble speeches, and we did see a pained sense of regret in Sam's face - but that's it.
While Scrubs did well to present the cycle of addiciton never-ending, the character of Sam is so detestable in his shameless display of manipulation that you can't help but loath him. Again, if there was any sense of recovery for Sam (even in the final episode), the show would have given us a glimmer of hope we didn't know we wanted.
