Scrubs: How It Should Be Re-Cast In 2021
1. John "JD" Dorian - Ben Schwartz
A sitcom is only as good as its lead, and Scrubs had one of the best.
JD, the daydreamer himself, was a big reason why the show worked, as although he was annoying, he always had you laughing, cringing and even crying when needed. That's a lot of pressure to give to a person, but Ben Schwartz is hardly one who would fail to meet it.
This comedy actor is a bundle of energy. His vocal work in Sonic The Hedgehog, improv comedy in Middleditch and Schwartz, and great performances in shows like Parks & Rec and Space Force make up a brilliant resume, and adding this role to it would fit like a glove.
Schwartz is readily equipped to play JD, as he has a sense of immaturity that pairs well with likeability. While he's not had much experience playing emotional moments - which is a key component of JD - that would work in his favour, as the more severe parts of the show would be out-of-left-field, making them all the more cathartic.
He is very much worthy to carry JD's stethoscope.
