Secret Invasion: 10 Things You Need To Know About The MCU's Next Big Event
3. Some Skrulls Don't Know Who They Are
Despite their superstrength, durability, agility, and speed, Skrulls have always relied on their shapeshifting abilities more than anything. But since the changelings can be detected through magic, telepathy or technology, this ability is far from fool proof.
Everything changed when the Skrulls captured several superheroes, stole their DNA and figured out how to fuse it with their own genes. Hypothetically, if a Skrull was injected with the DNA of Professor X, they would have the same powers, mannerisms, personality and memories as the the mutant leader. Not only that, the Skrull would actually think he's Professor X!
But it gets worse. This procedure was so seamless, the Skrull couldn't be detected through any means known to man. Not even Doctor Strange's magic, Iron Man's tech or Wolverine's nose could identify a single Skrull while in disguise.
Although some of these Skrulls were aware of their true identity, some were sleeper agents and so believed they were the persona they had assumed. When the Avengers learned there could be sleepers within their ranks, they became terrified that they could be Skrulls without realising. The Skrull Queen Veranke was so skilled at psychological warfare, she briefly convinced Iron Man he was one of them.
