Secret Invasion: 10 Things You Need To Know About The MCU's Next Big Event

2. Wasp Died (For A While)

There is a golden rule in major comic book events: one major superhero has to die by the end.

Captain America was shot dead in Civil War. Thor met his maker in the conclusion of Fear Itself. Heck, Hawkeye snuffed it twice during House of M!

Sadly, it was founding Avenger, Janet Van Dyne, aka the Wasp, who shuffled off the mortal coil during Secret Invasion's showdown. One month earlier, her ex-husband Hank Pym gifted Janet with a new growth serum that should be used in battle if things went south.

As the heroes of Earth made their last stand against the Skrulls, Wasp took the serum, growing to gargantuan size. The superheroine didn't realise the person who had been posing as Pym was a Skrull called Criti. Not only that, the growth serum he had given her was a bomb that was meant to be activated in case the Skrull invasion failed.

As she exploded, Thor used his enchanted hammer to control the blast. Even though he stopped the explosion from killing everyone, he couldn't save Janet.

Of course, nobody stays dead in comics and Janet was revealed to be alive inside the Microverse four years later.
