Secret Invasion Episode 2 Review - 7 Ups & 3 Downs

5. Up - Maria's Funeral

This article has already listed Maria Hill's death as a Down, as she was a strong character that could have brought a lot more to proceedings had she stayed alive. However, her death was at least able to bring something different to the episode.

Losing allies like Maria, Talos, and Rhodey feels like a perfect storm, and as if the death of his closest agent, and probably closest friend wasn't bad enough, as if suffering through the PTSD of being snapped out of existence wasn't enough, how about the fact that Maria's mother blames her daughter's death on him?

If we're being honest, it almost didn't matter what happened at Maria's funeral, at least she was given a funeral. It may have been a small affair, but it was dignified and poignant, and gave the franchise the chance to say goodbye to a very long-serving character.

Even the likes of Pietro and Natasha didn't get a funeral on screen in the MCU, the latter of which in particular is still a sore subject as she sacrificed just as much in the fight against Thanos as Tony Stark did. So you would be forgiven for thinking that the show would have just moved on and focused on Fury after her death, but at least she had a real send off.
