Secret Invasion Episode 2 Review - 7 Ups & 3 Downs

4. Up - The Proper Return Of Rhodey

Nick Fury Secret Invasion

Colonel James Rhodes is a character that has been in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for literally as long as the franchise has existed. It may have been a couple of years before Don Cheadle took the role from Terrence Howard, but the character has become incredibly popular over the years.

Generally, the best Disney+ series have focused on already established MCU characters and giving them more of a spotlight, and while there is some wait to go before Armor Wars hits screens (whether this is ultimately a movie or a TV show), Rhodey enjoyed that spotlight in episode two.

Cheadle did appear back in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but only for a fleeting moment, similarly to in episode one of Secret Invasion. However, he was given the most screen time since Endgame in Promises, and he certainly made the most of it.

Rhodey's role in episode two was incredibly enjoyable, and his conversation with Fury got real and heavy very quickly. Was he harsh on the former SHIELD Director? Incredibly. Did he protect him? To a degree. Could he be a Skrull? Absolutely!
