Secret Invasion Episode 2 Review - 7 Ups & 3 Downs

2. Up - Reserved Action

Nick Fury Secret Invasion
Marvel Studios

The first episode of Secret Invasion featured a lot of action, not all of it great. There were some very underwhelming fight scenes that felt beneath what the MCU's bar for such things should be, but episode two was completely different. There was almost no action at all.

From the very beginning, this was much more of a dialogue and character driven episode, and although the overall story didn't particularly progress much, there was a lot to be said about Nick Fury and his relationships, as well as the likes of Gravik and Sonya.

Action didn't have a big role to play, something that you could call a risk in the comic book genre, but this worked. There wasn't just pointless action for the sake of it, it was reserved only for when it was to be most impactful. In this case, it was showing Gravik's ruthless and violent capabilities in freeing and then killing Brogan.

It's hard to say whether another virtually action-less episode would work so well, as there are only six episodes to the series, but the fact that there is more to Secret Invasion than just fighting Skrulls works very much in its favour.
