Secret Invasion Episode 3 Review - 6 Ups & 4 Downs

8. Down - It Was Too Easy

Secret Invasion Nick Fury

You could say that there has been an issue with stakes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe recently. Too many stories have put the world or the universe in its entirety in danger, which naturally will start to lose its impact when overdone so much.

While Secret Invasion is a battle very personal to Nick Fury, as he is apparently the only one who can fight it, and it's kind of his fault to begin with, the entire human race is being threatened with extinction. The odds were stacked against Fury so much in the first two episodes that it felt like an impossible fight.

In episode three, Fury and Talos, thanks to G'iah's intel, learn about a Skrull attack that will undoubtedly kick-start World War 3. If the fight was really this tough for Fury, then why on Earth was it so easy for him to stop?

G'iah gave the information, Sonya just so happened to have the exact details of where to find exactly who they needed to find, and even after killing the man they needed alive to stop the attack, Talos was still able to abort the mission with relative ease. It felt like there were no real stakes in this episode because Fury barely had to break a sweat for what could have been World War 3. That doesn't bode well for the second half of the series.
