Secret Invasion Episode 3 Review - 6 Ups & 4 Downs

5. Up - MCU Callbacks

Secret Invasion Nick Fury
Marvel Studios

As a rule, every single MCU project is connected as a small piece in the larger puzzle. Even the likes of Moon Knight and Werewolf by Night, two projects whose obvious connections to the wider MCU were limited, still take place in the same universe as everything else.

In spite of Secret Invasion featuring plenty of established MCU characters, referencing the Blip, and coming off the back of Captain Marvel, the story itself has been relatively self-contained. There were however, two lovely callbacks and references to the wider universe in episode three that didn't steal the show or anything, but were enough to put a smile on fans' faces.

The first came in a 1998 scene that took place between Fury and Priscilla. As one of his network of Skrulls, she brought him something to help in the fight against Dreykov. This is a callback to the battle that ultimately saw Fury bring in Natasha Romanoff to SHIELD.

The second comes off the back of Gravik's Super Skrull plan. After Talos stabbed Gravik through the hand, the villain simply pulled his hand out, shredding the skin only for it to be immediately cured by what appeared to be his newly acquired Extremis powers.
