Secret Invasion Episode 3 Review - 6 Ups & 4 Downs

4. Up - Fury's De-Aging

Secret Invasion Nick Fury

Digital de-aging is something that has become relatively common in Hollywood over recent years, and the results have been mixed to say the least. Immediately some of the worst that come to mind are Professor X in X-Men: The Land Stand (albeit not a recent example), and Princess Leia and Grand Moff Tarkin in Rogue One.

The MCU has had more success over the years however, in spite of Willem Dafoe claiming that the technology wasn't quite there in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Tony Stark in Civil War, and Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne looked exceptional in the Ant-Man franchise, and of course then there is Nick Fury in Captain Marvel.

Samuel L. Jackson was de-aged for the entire movie in 2019, as he had to play Fury as a relatively young man, and there was always a high chance that Secret Invasion would utilise the technology again.

There have been several flashback scenes to the 1990s throughout the first three episodes, including in Betrayed. There have been four years since Captain Marvel, and it does appear that the de-aging process has been perfected just a little bit more, as Nick Fury looked excellent as a man 30 years younger.
